My students have really enjoyed using MoxieReader to log their daily reading instead of keeping up with a paper/pencil book log. Before Christmas break we had a reading challenge among students. The group that had the highest Moxie Scores (which they received for reading and logging books) was rewarded with cupcakes and donuts. It was a hit with… -

I wanted to share the progress of my two mini-grants. For my first grant, we have received the Canon camera and are in the planning stages of implementing the mini-grant during my next instructional unit. (Unfortunately, missing school because of the weather has caused me to shift this back a couple weeks.) For my second grant, students have been… -

“We’re 1:1 – So, Now What?!?”
To address the problem of practice that students are utilizing the 1:1 devices they were issued by the school but are not interacting with them to their fullest potential, I plan for the 75 students I teach in 7th grade language arts to partake in a series of interactive lessons and presentations throughout the year…[Read more]

“The Write Way to Showcase Appalachia”
Approximately 75 students in my language arts classes will photograph the Appalachian community in which they live. Students will select photos that they feel showcase positive attributes of Appalachia to use as inspiration for creative writing pieces. After composing, revising, and editing pieces, students…[Read more]

Mini-Grant UpdateSeventh grade students in my language arts class have been able to utilize the SmartKapp board I purchased for my mini-grant. I had hopes that the board would connect directly to students’ Chromebooks in real-time. However, because of internet filtering problems, I wasn’t able to make that happen. I have been using a USB drive…

The product looks very cool. I’m sorry to hear that the product isn’t working in real time. Have you talked to your CIO/DTC to see if they could figure out why it does work in real time. I noticed that you have it on the wall, I looked it up online and saw they also come with stands, probably more money. Based on what I saw it looks like it is…[Read more]

Last year certain sections had word limitations, but not every section. I believe it is the same way this year. While it doesn’t necessarily have to be lengthy, I suggest being as concise and descriptive as possible so that the scorers understand what you want to accomplish with your project and how you will measure your desired outcome. Hope that helps!

I just posted pictures of my students using the Surface Pro 3 that I purchased for my mini-grant. It was their first time using the device during our first semester. They LOVED using it as it made text annotation interactive for the entire class!

I am attaching pictures of my students using the Microsoft Surface Pro 3, along with our school’s Mondopad, to make text annotation interactive. This was the first time that my students got to use the Surface Pro that I purchased as part of the mini-grant I received. My students were excited to get to use the technology. They specifically liked…[Read more]
