I hope that I interpreted this webpage correctly. It contained a whole wealth of information.
While reviewing KY’s Uniform Academic Course Codes webpage, I only focused on those at the Elementary Level because I teach at an Elementary School. My first reaction was WOW! This would be ideal for students to have the opportunity to all of these c…Read More1 Comment-
You have hit upon what seems to be the greatest concern with Opportunity and Access, which is resources and the variation between schools. The rich curriculum piece is asking for what is circled in the attached graphic at elementary and the course codes are to come from the listing.

After hearing Dr.Gusky speak last summer about Mastery Learning, it really opened my eyes to formative assessments. I have always used formative assessments but never as a tool to achieve Mastery Learning. This year at Flat Gap Elementary each teachers designed daily learning targets that are aligned with the standards. Then a formative assessment…Read More

Welcome Jeff! Loved the video and the vision of performance/authentic assessment it offers. Not only an excellent job by the student, but a wonderful example of relevant assessment. Others may want to visit https://www.performanceassessmentresourcebank.org/ where Stanford University has undertaken the building of a performance assessment resource bank.

Thank you for your post Tony. Student ownership is certainly what we all are after. Do you have any more details for how you encourage or prompt student analysis of their work?

Students use a data notebook to analyze assessments and performance. We update them every few weeks to keep it fresh in their minds.

I am new to student data notebooks this year so I know that I have a lot of room to grow. Tony, what all is included in your data notebooks? Also what grades are they used with? We currently use them with 4th-6th grades, but would love for this to expand all the way down to K. I would appreciate any insights on data notebooks that you or anyone…Read More

I use assessment data from various sources. We use STAR Reading data, Reading Plus data, MAP data, CERT data. We also use a student data notebook to allow students to do self-reflection and set goals. You can set this up using classroom assessments as well, but it has to be consistently used throughout the year to be effective.

A great assessment strategy I use is to follow up any summative with student analysis so they will take ownership of their performance. Formative assessments are used throughout lessons to guide instruction.
