  • Whiteboards:
There are many assessment practices that I use that have yielded tremendous benefits for students. The first is a very simple, yet effective practice that I use regularly. After guided practice on an objective, I will use my classroom set of whiteboards to formatively assess students. I will post a problem on the board. Students will…Read More

    • Lucy I am a kindergarten teacher and I use white boards for assessment almost daily. Like you, I will post a problem on the board and have students write the answer and then we all show our answer at the same time. I also dovreading problems and havecstdents sound our words using their boards. There are endless opportunities for assessment using…Read More

  • I feel like a broken record since so many others have mentioned standards based grading, but that has been our district wide push this year, and I have enjoyed it. It has created more work for me as I find I am letting kids retake exams and redo papers more than I have in the past, but I like the mastery that comes from it!

    • A lot of work, but like you say a lot of pay off no doubt. Are you entering grades in Infinite Campus differently 1,2,3,4… versus 0-100? If so, does Infinite Campus allow you to alter the grade book to accommodate for this?

Students then have time to circle the room and study each quote. Depending on the unit, students must recognize grammar mistakes or any literary devices. It is great for engaging the stu…Read More

    • If students can recognize good work and find errors to make it great, then how much better will they be at producing great work themselves. I love the idea of using a gallery walk to do this.

  • I am a paperless classroom teaching Integrated Social Studies and Advanced Placement World History. I have been involved with creating innovative and engaging lessons. The best thing that I use to assess my students includes numerous Google Apps for Education. I use Google Classroom as my home for the students to get their work. Slides,…Read More

    • Wow!
Has 1 to 1 capability helped in your ability to use formative assessment?

      • Yes! Students can collaborate and share many assignments, I can use technology to administer exit tickets, and 1 to 1 gives way to creative presentation opportunities. Socratic.com is great for quick class feedback for bell ringers and exit tickets.

      • This is great! I have recently been having my students do their notes in google slides and they love it! And they will always have them in their Google Drive! No more “lost” notes.

    • Were you trained on Google classroom or did you just start playing around on it to figure out all of the different capabilities it offers? I would love to attend a training on how to use google classroom in a math classroom. I’m especially interested in how students would show their work.
