I am getting more connections to UK’s STEM work – which is funded by mini-grants. This is separate from NxtGen Academy work and is providing some awesome opportunities for teachers which I saw in action yesterday on campus. They have been working with some southeast/southcentral districts to pair teachers with UK researchers as well as industry partners. Over the course of two years these teachers will spend time in the research labs, have job-embedded PD with their partner researcher in their classroom, and intern for a couple of days with an industry partner (such as Alltech, LGE/KY Utilities, etc.). Partner researchers represent the Markey Cancer Center, College of Engineering, Biology, and other science departments across campus. Breathitt, Lee and Wolfe Counties are going to be joining the program. Stay tuned for more news about this great partnership.
