My grant was for iPads for my special needs classrooms. Having the iPads allowed my students to hone many academic skills through the use of apps such as iXL and Teach Your Monster to Read. They were able to continue working on important skills during times when there was not an adult to work 1:1 with them, which was beneficial to their learning.
We also used the iPads to foster collaboration and social skills, as they used them to work together on Kahoot! quizzes over various subjects and standards we studied. The iPads were also a great tool for teaching technology skills and independent work skills, as the students learned when to work independently on the iPads and how to operate them.
I saw so many interesting ideas at the Promising Practices Summit! I would love to look into coding opportunities for my students, as I think it is a skill that could be adapted to meet their functional level. I would also like to look into doing more cooking/life skills based projects, since this is an area of great need and interest for my group of students.
